What is MRI?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a safe, accurate and painless diagnostic imaging test used by radiologists to see areas of the body that cannot be seen with a conventional X-ray or CT.

MRI uses a magnetic field and highly specialized imaging software to create detailed images of organs, soft tissue, bones and other body parts. MRI exams are especially useful in helping to diagnose nervous system, musculoskeletal and cancer-related diseases or injury. MRI is also one of the safest imaging tests you can have.

CashPrice MRI offers both traditional MRI as well as open MRI and stand-up MRI options. Stand-up MRI is a significant innovation that allows patients to be imaged standing up, bending over or sitting down, which can help better identify their source of pain, especially when it comes to back pain, shoulder pain and sports injuries. Our stand-up MRI is also great for children, as it allows them to sit comfortably in the machine, or even to have an adult present with them during the examination.

Is there any radiation exposure with an MRI?

No. Unlike CT or X-ray, there is absolutely no radiation exposure of any kind during an MRI examination.

What is CT?

Also known as a “CAT scan,” CT (Computed Tomography) combines multiple x-ray images to produce a two-dimensional cross-section view of anatomy with as much as 100 times more clarity than conventional x-ray.

CT imaging usually takes about 30 minutes and is used to clearly show soft tissue, like the brain, as well as dense tissue, like bone.

What is X-ray?

Radiography, also known as X-ray, is the oldest and most frequently used form of imaging to see inside the human body. It uses a focused beam and a special detector to obtain images of body anatomy. Fluoroscopy uses x-rays to study moving body structures, such as digestive functions, in a live, movie-like sequence. It is a safe and generally non-invasive procedure.

X-rays are absorbed by different body tissues in varying degrees. Dense tissue, like bone, absorbs most x-rays and appears white on the image. Less dense tissues appear in shades of gray. X-rays that pass through air, like in the lungs and colon, aren’t absorbed at all and appear black on the image.

Do I need a doctor’s prescription for an imaging test at CashPrice MRI?

In most cases, a regular MRI does not require a prescription. However, there are some MRI tests that should be referred by a physician. If you’re not sure, just call us and we’ll be happy to discuss your options.

When will I get my results?

Results are generally available within 48-72 hours of your test, or sooner if possible or if requested by your doctor. We offer a secure patient portal that allows you to review your test images and results report(s).
